Will your applications be compatible with Mac OS X 10.6?

We are hard at work getting Application Enhancer and our haxies compatible with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Please keep an eye on our official lines of communication (website - http://www.unsanity.com, blog - http://www.unsanity.org, newsletters - http://www.unsanity.com/list, etc.) for more information on compatibility releases, calls for beta testers, and other updates, and watch our compatibility page at http://www.unsanity.com/products/compatibility. Also our Twitter @haxies and @haxiesbeta for most up-to minute info.

There are no known incompatibilities with Drive Genius and/or DrivePulse with regards to Application Enhancer (APE).

When you are running DrivePulse or Drive Genius, those two software products will put up a dialog warning about some unmentioned compatibility with APE. However, we have not heard of any actual incompatibilities with APE and Drive Genius and/or DrivePulse.

The Drive Genius/DrivePulse software just checks to see if APE is on disk. If it is, it shows a warning. It also shows the warning if APE is on disk but completely inactive.

The dialog mentions something about Unsanity Application Enhancer crashing, but APE doesn't work in a manner that "it" can "crash". APE is a plugin system for APE Modules (like FruitMenu).

If you having a specific problem with APE and Drive Genius and/or DrivePulse, please email us and we'll work to correct it.

So please, please download the trial software and make sure it does what you want it to do before purchasing it.

What are the new upgrade rules? How do I purchase an upgrade for LX, WSX, Menu Master, or Xounds?

* Note: The Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard v10.6.x versions of WindowShade X (5.x), Labels X (3.x), Menu Master (2.x), and Xounds (3.x) are not free upgrades.

You must install the Mac OS X 10.6.x-only WindowShade X (5.x), Labels X (3.x), Menu Master (2.x) and/or Xounds (3.x) software before going through the upgrade process.

These Mac OS X 10.6.x-only releases implement a new Unsanity Registration Updater (henceforth "URU") implemented as a separate application in their respective preference panes. If you bought any of the above listed products on or after August 28th, 2009, the upgrade to Mac OS X 10.6.x compatible versions is free and URU will automatically upgrade your code when you open the product's System Preferences' Preference Pane.

If you bought WSX, LX, Menu Master, or Xounds before August 28th, 2009 and you have a previously valid serial number, you will be given a 33% coupon if you wish to update. This upgrade discount coupon will be made available to you via URU when you open the Mac OS X 10.6.x-only product's preference pane and you have entered a previously valid serial number before or when you enter a previously valid serial number into the Mac OS X 10.6.x-only preference pane.

Your currently valid code will continue to work with older releases of WSX, LX, Menu Master and Xounds. However, the older releases will not run on Mac OS X 10.6.x.

All of the serial number updating is done through URU. URU presents itself if needed when you open the WSX, LX, Menu Master, or Xounds Preference Pane. It's all designed to be very straight forward and we hope you enjoy the action.

Note: Some users have reported that the URU application launches behind other windows on some computers despite the fact URU uses around three different Mac OS X APIs to ensure it is frontmost. If you cannot see URU when you are certain it should appear, check the Dock. URU appears in the Dock as an ugly generic application icon when it is running. Click this icon to bring the URU window to the front.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have further questions about URU or you are having URU problems.

Can haxies slow down my system?

Haxies will slow down application launch times, yes. This happens because the haxie code needs to be initialized when the application loads, so this can add additional overhead of several milliseconds per haxie installed (typically in the range of 20 to 200 milliseconds on a modern Mac, depending on the specific haxie).

Typically you will not notice much, if any, slowdown. Once loaded, haxies stay inactive and will not use any of the processor power unless you use them (collapse a window, browse an Apple menu, etc). Some haxies may slow your system down during active use, such as using large cursors in MIghty Mouse, but these instances are usually noted.

We are constantly working on improving our haxies, so we recommend you to keep an eye on our site or subscribe to our mailing list to always run the latest versions of our products.

I want to run your haxies under the 'root' user. What can I do?

Sorry, there is no way to run our haxies or other Application Enhancer as root. This is both for security reasons and technical reasons.

One of your products is causing my application(s) to crash! Help!

We certainly try hard to maintain compatibility with as many other products as possible. But if there is a problem the best thing you can do to help us diagnose it is detail the circumstances of the crash, attach a crashlog (how to find a crashlog), and send this information to support@unsanity.com

Please note that finding "Application Enhancer" listed at the bottom of a crash log does NOT typically indicate that APE was responsible for a crash (cum hoc ergo propter hoc). APE is loaded into all running applications and will always show up there.

We'll try to resolve it as quickly as possible.

The email address I used when I purchased your programs is now obsolete. Can you change your records to reflect my new email address?

Sure, send us an email with your old address (clearly noted) and your new address. We'll make the change and send you updated registration information also.

If you can't remember your old address please include any and all information that will help us locate your record. (name, purchase date, order ID, etc)
